Scattered Peaks Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

I don’t drink as much Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as I probably should these days. And there are some reasons for that, although they probably aren’t very good . The first reason is I’m terrible at trying things that are new to me, unless its old world. The second reason is Napa Cabs tend to be a bit predictable which can be a turnoff for me. The third reason is I tend to prefer my wine with a bit of age on it. So when a rep talked to me about Scattered Peaks, I said why the hell not. We do carry their Sauvignon Blanc which is quite good for the money, so trying their Cab was a no brainer. Scattered Peaks to my knowledge does not own any land and sources all of their grapes from the hillsides & mountain slopes, the majority coming from the Usibelli vineyard which has been owned by the same family since 1955. The founder is Derek Benham & the winemaker is Steven Urberg, which has done a great job with this wine. It is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot & 1% Petite Syrah. It’s fruit forward with black & red fruits, possibly a touch of blue fruits with some black pepper, cassis, & some oak on the nose. The palate has black, red, & blue fruits, with a touch of spice, cassis, creamy oak, velvety tannins, & medium acidity in a full body with a medium length finish. The wine is super delicious, easy to drink right now, & price friendly. This will be on our shelf as of Tuesday afternoon.
