Paul Simon & Pinot Noir.

I am a Paul Simon fan. I’m also a Pinot Noir fan. Combine the two with a cooler evening on the porch, & you have a winning combination. I like Paul for a few distinct reasons. He’s a great guitar player & a very underrated singer. He’s probably an underrated guitar player too. Now he may not have the powerful vibrato or range of Art Garfunkel, but his voice is pleasing & he knows how to use it to suite his limited range which isn’t easy to do. He’s also a great songwriter & has got a knack for some great unusual rhythms you don’t really hear in pop music. His song One Trick Pony is a great example & has a infectious African rhythm that just makes you want to get up & dance. A few more glasses of wine, & I just might do that. But enough about Paul Simon. Lets talk about the pinot noir I’m drinking right now. It’s Willajory from the Willamette Valley 2023 vintage. Willajory takes its name from the 50 million year old marine sedimentary Willakenzie and the 20 million year old volcanic Jory soils that are renowned in the Willamette Valley and are the foundation of the property. It is owned by Howard Rossbach. This isn’t a life changing wine, but at $17.99, this is a very nice bang for your buck. It has fresh red fruits, some herbs, & subtle spices in a soft body with medium acidity, softer tannins & a faint touch of vanilla on the finish. This is quite delightful, just like Paul Simon.
